There is something about wearing my glasses & reading a book that makes me feel so dope.Especially when my husband’s bearded dragon crawls over while I’m taking pictures & invites himself into my photos (insert eye roll here).
Ok but really, I have challenged myself to become a reader. I want to start by reading, or listening to, 1-2 books a month. I find that reading helps me grow, keeps me from always speaking ebonics (real life), & grows my perspective. I started my “book club” this month by reading a book with some ladies back home. This book is by Priscilla Shirer who is my Beyonce.
The Resolution for Women
So I should tell you guys that I have read this book before, when I first got married. My husband read “The Resolution for Men” & we worked on these resolves together. Wow how different it has been reading it almost 6 years later, as a mom. I absolutely love how she digs deep into all areas of womanhood & challenges perspectives. Priscilla is brilliant at taking a topic that seems pretty unimportant, & shining a light on how important it actually is. As I read this I was reminded of what it looks like to be a woman of purpose & how much intentional living that requires. From being a woman satisfied, to femininity, to grace, to leaving a Godly legacy, this book speaks to all women no matter the season of life. Even reading it a second time it stands as one of the best books I have read. Find it here
This is another book by Priscilla Shirer & if you have seen the movie “War Room” this book will sound familiar. The cover of this book says “A woman’s battle plan for Serious, Specific, and Strategic prayer.” That is the perfect explanation of this book. You guys reading this has reminded me how necessary, relevant, & incredibly powerful prayer is. She breaks down different ways the enemy attacks a woman, his strategies. She then offers ways we can wage war on the tactics/strategies & win every time. I took my journal & went to town writing out strategic prayers, especially for my family. I will absolutely be reading this book again. They also have the audio version on HOOPLA which was super helpful for me. Find it here
I would say all women of God should have these books in their library. After reading these I feel a fresh energy to pray & live with purpose. I cant wait to see how these prayer strategies & resolutions help me become the woman God is calling me to be.
